The YouTube video of Sugah was released April 27, 2025. Check it out! Footage is from Hi-Fidelity Brewing in Portland, Maine.
Blind Spot (released Jan 1, 2025) and 3 O’Clock in the Morning (released Feb 25, 2025) have had a lot of play on terrestrial & internet radio, and on streaming services. Thanks for the support!
The single Cheap-ass Wine, the first single from our upcoming album Exhale on Maine St was released in November 2024. The song made the Mainebrews N Musicreviews Best of 2024, has been in regular rotation on Maine Music TV, multiple episodes of the Greetings from the Area Code 207 Show with Charlie Gaylord, and Music From 207, WCLZ 98.9. What a lift!
We’ve been getting some play on WBOR 91.1 Bowdoin College with Mike Halmo’s The Blues Highway show (Thursdays at 4pm), which is also WMPG 90.9. Check out the May 15 show. We had 4 tracks, and that episode really took Bill home to Memphis!
We are a Maine Retro-Rock band that combines elements of R&B and grit to bring you original songs and interpretated covers. We love music and might reach for unexpected tunes to play.
Influences?
Booker T and the MGs, The Clash, The Replacements, Hendrix, Billy Gibbons, Petty, the Elvises (Costello and Presley), James Brown, Charles Bradley, The Smithereens, The Kinks, Big Star, Todd Snider, Wilco… anyone with soul and grit.
Who are we?
Bill Stamey (guitar, lead vocals), originally from Memphis, has played guitar and other instruments as long as he can remember, attended music college, and has worked with incredible people, gigged on Beale Street and all over his hometown, played around the South (Athens, GA, Austin, TX, etc.) during his early days as a professional musician. He brings that sound with him to Maine.
Howard “Word” Coven (guitar and vocals) joined Bill in 2022 and brings some original songs and vibe of his own. Originally from Staten Island, NY, Word spent a long time on the West Coast, where he was a founding member of The Electric Waste Band and San Diego’s Jetwash. Word brings creativity, a dash of disco, a helping of jam band, and big sense of humor. He has a way of finding the good side in every situation – a positive influence!
With Bill and Word Dooryarders evolved through a few different lineups in the bass and drum positions (and played with some great people, including Jeff Sauer on bass and Greg Saucier on drums – both of whom are pros, and played on the videos for the singles “she’s gonna be my girl” and “thorns”, released prior the album best laid plans).
In the summer of 2023 Randy Shaw (bass and vocals) joined the band, bringing decades of experience, a great personality, a funny sense of humor, an encyclopedic knowledge of rock music, a practicality that cuts through a lot of the fog, and a lot of cool to the band. Randy is originally from Rhode Island but has lived in Maine since college. Randy, Word, and Bill are the core of Dooryarders, and play electric and acoustic gigs as Dooryarders Unplugged.
Drummers
Between June 2023 and July 2024 Scott Mills (drums) was in the band with a solid rock foundation. Scott plays on nine of the tracks on the album Best Laid Plans. Greg Saucier plays on the song “thorns” (both on the album and the YouTube video). Since July 2024 Stephen Almasi has played out with Dooryarders and worked with the band as it continues to record new music. Hudson Bird has also filled the drummer’s throne from time to time.
